IPL 2020: MS Dhoni shouldn’t be batting lower than No 5 for CSK, says Ajit Agarkar

Former India cricketer and speedster Ajit Agarkar believes that CSK skipper, MS Dhoni, shouldn’t bat lower down the order and though his position depends on the scorecard and situation, he still shouldn’t bat lower than No 5. The Mumbaikar further mentioned that MSD, being a great cricketing mind, will find his form as IPL 2020 progresses.

Chennai Super Kings hasn’t had a great run this season. On Monday, the Men in Yellow suffered a 7-wicket defeat versus Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. And thus, they are currently at the bottom of the points table with 3 wins in 10 matches, 6 points, and an NRR of -0.463.

“In my opinion, MS Dhoni shouldn’t be batting lower than number 5. It will obviously depend on what the situation is, but the lowest he should go is No 5. He is arguably one of the greatest cricketing brains to ever play the game.

He can see things and access situations that other players can’t and you can see, as the tournament progresses, his form is getting better as well. So, he shouldn’t be batting lower than number 5 for me,” said Agarkar on Star Sports’ Fanweek.

Replacing Dinesh Karthik wasn’t the right move: Ajit Agarkar

The 42-year-old also opined on Eoin Morgan being handed over the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the middle of the tournament, especially when Dinesh Karthik led them to 4 wins in 7 matches. He said that it wasn’t the right move as it could add a bit of disruption to the team.

“I don’t think replacing Dinesh Karthik after seven games when you’re sitting fourth in the table is the right move in my opinion. It does add to the disruption of the team and you could see the way they performed against Mumbai Indians, even though it was a tough game.

I don’t think it was the right move. You make plans with a certain captain through the course of the year and in spite of sitting fourth on the table, it was a very strange move for me,” he added.

Under Eoin Morgan, KKR lost against Mumbai Indians but won the faceoff versus David Warner-captained Sunrisers Hyderabad in the super-over.

As of present, the Men in Purple and Gold are at the 4th spot in the points table with 5 wins in 9 matches, 10 points, and an NRR of -0.467.

KKR will be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on October 21 in Abu Dhabi while CSK will take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) on October 23 in Sharjah.
