Rajasthan Royals mentor Shane Warne backs Sanju Samson to represent India in all formats

Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne is all praises for the rising star on the block – Sanju Samson – who won back to back Man of the Match awards in the two matches played so far in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals won both the matches and a major credit goes to Samson for his big-hitting abilities that helped the team post in excess of 200 on both occasions.

Sanju is already in the run for the orange cap in IPL 2020, aggregating close to 160 runs in 2 outings at an average and strike of 79.5 and 214.86 respectively. He is topping the charts in terms of most sixes in this season, having smashed 16 of them along with 5 fours under his belt.

Sanju Samson is such a quality player: Shane Warne

Warne, who was the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals and led them to their maiden title in the inaugural edition of IPL, believes that Samson is one of the most talented cricketers in the Indian circuit and if he maintains his consistency, then he could be playing all formats in the national team.

The spin wizard, who is now the mentor of the Rajasthan Royals, added how the 25-year-old has evolved as a cricketer over the years and he is all set to hit the international circuit soon.

“Sanju Samson, I mean I have been saying it for a long time now, Sanju should be playing all forms of the game for India. He is such a quality player, he’s shown that class again in the first game and I hope he has a consistent tournament this year. If he has a consistent tournament this year I think you’ll see him representing India in all forms of the game.

He’s just such a talented player, I’ve seen a lot of talented cricketers in my time but watching Samson bat, in the nets being around him, speaking to him over the gears and now watching him evolve I mean he is something else. Be is a very special talent and I hope he hits the international stage very soon” added the Aussie cricketing legend in his interaction with ANI.

Samson is possibly going through a purple patch in his career and with his current form, he could possibly end up as the highest run-getter in IPL 2020 that is currently underway in UAE.

Not to forget, he’s a wicket-keeper batsman, and his consistent exploits with the bat could strengthen his chances of making it to India’s playing XI in the limited overs and in the longer format.

Over the years, the Kerala-born cricketer has been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders (2012), Rajasthan Royals (2013-15), Delhi Daredevils (2016-17), and now back again with the Royals since 2018.

In 91 innings, the hard-hitter has amassed over 2300 runs, averaging 28.88, and striking at 133.79. So far, he has struck two centuries and 12 fifties to his name, and could end up with more 50-plus tallies by the end of this season.

Rajasthan Royals will play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on September 30 in Dubai. It would be interesting to see how the wicket-keeper batsman performs against a star-studded lineup.
