Really enjoyed the IPL and feel I have taken my game to a different standard: Sam Curran

England all-rounder Sam Curran has stated that his stint with the three-time IPL winners – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – in the concluded edition of the tournament helped him evolve as a cricketer and take his game to a different level.

Though CSK couldn’t make the playoffs for the first time in IPL history, Curran’s all-round performances impressed many, and thus, he was eventually dubbed by the fans as the biggest positive for the franchise and an asset for the next editions. In 14 matches, the 22-year-old scored 186 runs at an average of 23.92 and an impressive strike rate of over 130. With the ball, he managed to affect 13 dismissals while bowling at an average and economy of 26.46 and 8.19 respectively. He opened the innings on a few occasions and on some he batted in the middle-order. The left-armer was a wicket-taking bowler in the powerplay who troubled the batsmen in the powerplays and on some occasions in the death overs.

I want to keep trying to improve and become a regular, says Sam Curran

Curran is currently in South Africa for the ongoing T20I series and later the 3-match ODIs that would kick start from December 4. He tore through the Protea batting order in the first match at Newlands, dismissed the likes of Tenda Bavuma (5,5b), Faf du Plessis (58, 40b) and Heinrich Klaasen (20,12b), and emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the English side with match-winning figures of 4-0-28-3.

The all-rounder heaped praise on the coaching and training that he received in Chennai for IPL 2020. He added that the learnings received helped him grow immensely as a cricketer and now, he just wants to keep improving his game to become a regular. He was a part of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the previous edition then roped by the Chennai-based franchise during the IPL 2020 auctions held in the month of December 2019.

“Really enjoyed the IPL and feel I have taken my game to a different standard in terms of my learning. I took a lot away from that group and the coaching staff at Chennai. I feel my game has improved since I went there and I want to keep trying to improve and become a regular,” said the Northampton-born cricketer.

Led by Eoin Morgan, England, who are 0-2 up in the 3-match series, will take on South Africa in the final dead-rubber duel on December 1 at Newland, in Cape Town.
