Former Australian pacer Brett Lee hails the backing offered by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni to their players. He pointed out that Dhoni’s backing isn’t just restricted to the players who make it to the playing XI, but to the entire unit of 13-14 cricketers who could be brought in as a replacement if there’s an injury in the team.

CSK was lagging behind in the points table and, at one point, were at the bottom. The men in yellow weren’t getting a strong start from the opening batsman. Skipper MSD addressed this a few days back, saying that they lacked steam in their batting order.

Lee, who was a member of the 2012 IPL winnings team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), added that the 10-wicket triumph over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) would have boosted their spirits for the coming games.
“The great thing about MS Dhoni is that he believes his players, commits to the eleven that are there. He also backs the 13-14 that are there if there is an injury. It’s the eleven he believes in, commits to the team. They played so well, and as they say, the lions will sleep pretty well tonight,” said Lee on Star Sports.

The former Aussie speedster highlighted how MSD backed Shane Watson in the initial four matches played in IPL 2020, wherein the latter had scores of 4(5), 33(17), 14(16), and 1(6).
However, the 39-year-old rendered an unbeaten 83 in 53 balls that comprised 11 fours and 3 sixes. He established a 181-run opening stand with Faf du Plessis (87*) which is now the second-highest partnership in a 10-wickets win in IPL history. Not to mention, the Aussie all-rounder grabbed the ‘Player of the Match’ award at the end of the contest.

“Hats off to MSD for promoting Watson with that opportunity and backing his teammate. Watto came out and totally dominated it. The way he went down the line and didn’t go across the line, the last few games he went across the line. When he is in form, he can do it but Shane Watson, tonight, was on fire,” Lee added.
