5 Players from Jamaica Tallawahs to watch out for in CPL 2020

A forgettable run throughout the CPL 2019 would have forced the Jamaica Tallawahs to work on their weaknesses and rebound stronger in the coming season. It was a bit surprising to witness the two time CPL champions occupy the bottom spot in the points table with merely two wins in ten matches in the league stages. They faltered in establishing a winning momentum that could have got them to the playoffs.

A side that has made to the knockouts since the inaugural edition, and with the current squad possessing names like Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, and Glenn Philips, who are rated as one of the best T20 cricketers at present, a lot is expected and for obvious reasons.

Although Jamaica Tallawahs were highly active during the CPL 2020 drafts, it is their retained squad that is likely to play a dominant role in getting their team past the victory limits.

Let us take a look at the five players who will are likely to play a gigantic role for Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL 2020.

Chadwick Walton

An aggressive top-order batsman who can set the mood for a majestic total if and when needed, Walton will be expected to carry the onus of scoring the chunk of runs for the Tallawahs. The Jamaian cricketer is seated at the 4th spot in the list of highest run-getters in the CPL, and be it anchoring the innings or getting those big-hits to display, one could back the 35-year-old to perform both the duties with finesse.

Andre Russell

It’s a no brainer to pick Caribbean muscle Dre Russ as a much-anticipated player in any T20 tournament. He is, at present, the most destructive batsman in this format of the game.

He has an experience of over 320 T20s wherein he has amassed 5365 runs at a strike rate of 171.29. While its his blistering batting that gets the attention, one shouldn’t forget his bowling that can keep the rivald under a check in a high pressure feud.

The previous season was certainly not the best that Russell had to offer, and without an iota of doubt, the big man would be rearing to rip through the opposition attack in the upcoming season.

Oshane Thomas

Thomas’ express pace has been his strength which along with the cutters, yorkers and the bounce that he commands make him a lethal bowler in the shortest format of the game. In his short CPL career, the Jamaican pacer had grabbed 32 wickets in 21 appearances averaging 21.90.

The right armer’s exploits in the powerplays have been the major contributor to his wicket-tally, and the bouncomething which the cricket afficionados across the globe will be vying to witness in the eighth edition of CPL.

Sandeep Lamichhane

Appearances at IPL, BBL, and PSL have played a key role in the rise of Lamichhane as a go-to partnership breaker in the middle-overs.  The 20-year-old played for the tournament champions Barbados Tridents in the last season of CPL, wherein he capped 8 wickets in 6 T20s at an economy of 6.50 and averaged 16.12.

Not just the CPL, the leggie has been raking in applause for his nerve-wracking googlies throughout the T20 leagues across the globe, to the extent, he is among the most anticipated spinners one would want to have in their lineups.

Glenn Phillips

Whatever opportunities he has received so far, Phillips has made sure to capitalize on the same, both as a wicket-keeper and as a batsman. The Kiwi cricketer has been playing the CPL since 2017, with the 2019 edition being his best so far, as far as his batting is concerned. An opening batter, Phillips was the highest run-scorer for the Tallawahs as he aggregated 374 runs with 3 fifties at a strike rate of over 140.

Behind the stumps, Phillips affected 18 dismissals comprising 16 catches and 2 stumpings. From his vast experience of T20s played in New Zealand and the Caribbean islands, Phillips would be heavily banked upon by the franchise to take on the opposition attack with his prowess.
