Ireland Women were too strong for the hosts Scotland in the opening game of the three-match T20I series as they bagged 1-0 lead. The two will turn out for the second game on Tuesday, September 6th at the same venue in Edinburgh.

The visitors won the first T20I on Monday by eight wickets on the back of a stunning performance by Orla Prendergast. Ailsa Lister started well for Scotland, scoring 25 off 19 while Saskia Horley almost batted through the innings and made a solid 52 in 42 balls. Arlene Kelly picked 2 for 12 with other bowlers chipping in to restrict the hosts to 133/6.

Katherine Fraser removed Gaby Lewis on the first ball of the second over and Amy Hunter in the fifth over of the innings, giving some hope to Scotland. The Irish captain Laura Delany and Prendergast then stitched together an unbroken 99-run partnership to take the team over the line with 22 balls to spare.

Delany scored 36 not out off 35 balls but Prendergast stole the show with an outstanding 75* in just 45 balls – which included 11 fours and a six.

The 20yr old all-rounder is coming off the performance of her career, scoring unbeaten 75 off 45 in the first T20I. Prendergast has been in good form in recent times, getting starts in the ODI series against Netherlands. She has 14 wickets in T20Is at an economy of 4.22 while scoring 273 runs at an average of 18.

Laura Delany: All-rounder, Ireland

The Irish skipper bagged 1 for 27 in her four overs in the series opener and then scored a solid 36 not-out at just over run-a-ball. Laura Delany has played 76 T20 internationals, picking 44 scalps at an economy of 6.23 and scoring 845 runs while averaging 18 with one fifty.

Sarah Bryce: Scotland

Sarah Bryce has a pretty good record for Scotland in the shorter format. She has played 33 matches, scoring 720 runs at an average of 29 with two fifties. Bryce looked good in the recent women’s Hundred, hitting 28, 33, 36 and 23 in four innings. Bryce didn’t do much in the series opener but remains a key player.

The 28yr old right arm medium pacer bowled a brilliant spell in the first T20I against Scotland, picking 2 wickets for just 12 runs in four overs. Arlene Kelly has played only seven T20Is for Ireland, bagging 7 scalps at 6.52 rpo. Recently, she had picked 3/9 against Netherlands in one of the ODIs.

Katherine Fraser: Bowler, Scotland

The off-break bowler Katherine Fraser is coming off 2 for in the last game. She has an excellent record in T20 internationals, having claimed 34 scalps in 25 matches at 14.3 strike rate.
