Match: India vs Sri Lanka, Cricket World Cup 2023 (IND vs SL)
Date: November 2, Thursday, 2.00 PM IST
Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
India will look to win their seventh straight game at the on-going ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 when they take on Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
India’s sixth straight win came against England in Lucknow on Sunday. But if not for an 87 by captain and opener Rohit Sharma, the hosts might have found themselves in trouble. Five of the XI scored in single digits, including Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. Sharma’s half century, 39 from KL Rahul and 49 from Suryakumar Yadav propelled India to 229 on a slow Lucknow pitch. The bowlers then wreaked havoc – Mohammad Shami (4 wickets) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 wickets) helped bowl out England for only 129 in 34.5 overs. India’s bowling has looked very strong throughout the tournament.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, come into this match on the back of a seven-wicket loss to Afghanistan. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 241 runs on the board with contributions from Sadeera Samarawickrama (86), Pathum Nissanka (46) and Kusal Mendis (39). However, they were unable to defend the target as Afghanistan got over the line with seven wickets and 28 balls remaining.
For Sri Lanka to still stay in contention for the semi-finals, winning all their remaining games is a must.

Five players to watch out for
Here we list five players you must pick in your Rummy Bo fantasy team for IND vs SL, Cricket World Cup 2023 match.
Rohit Sharma – batsman, India
Rohit Sharma has been leading from the front not only as a captain but also as the batsman. He is the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament, with 398 runs in six matches at an average of 66.33. This includes a century and two fifties. The opening batsman comes into this back on the back of a match-winning knock of 87 against Sri Lanka in the previous game. Rohit is a good choice for your Rummy Bo team’s captaincy for this game, more so because he has plenty of experience playing at the Wankhede – his home ground both in domestic cricket and the IPL.
Virat Kohli – batsman, India
Virat Kohli has scored 354 runs in six matches at an average of 88.50. This includes a century and three fifties. After being dismissed for a duck in the previous game against England, Kohli will be looking to make amends against Sri Lanka on a batting friendly Wankhede pitch. He is also just one century short of equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds.
Mohammad Shami – bowler, India
In just two games, Mohammad Shami has already picked up nine wickets at an average of 8.44 and an economy rate of 4.47. He picked up five against New Zealand and four against England – the fifer was particularly impressive as it came against one of the top teams at a batting friendly Dharamshala ground. Shami will be looking to carry the momentum into the next game.
Pathum Nissanka – batsman, Sri Lanka
Pathum Nissanka is the top run-scorer for Sri Lanka so far in the tournament. In six matches, he has scored 289 runs at an average of 57.80. After scoring four back-to-back half centuries, he missed out on a fifth one by just four runs in the previous game.
Kusal Mendis – wicketkeeper batsman, Sri Lanka
Kusal Mendis has been inconsistent but remains an important pick for your fantasy team. He has scored 268 runs in six innings at an average of 44.66 and will be looking for some more runs in the remaining three do-or-die matches for Sri Lanka.
