Over the past seven editions, the Indian Super League has been an easy hunting ground for a few while others have found it a tough nut to crack. An example of the first would be former FC Goa forward Ferran Corominas, who is the ISL top scorer of all time. The Spanish goalscorer, who is no more a part of the Indian Super League now, sits at the top of the goalscoring list despite not playing the ISL 202-0-21 season.

Ferran Corominas: The man who unlocked ISL
It was former FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera who had first brought in Ferran Corominas from Cyprus club Doxa Katokopias in the ISL 2017-18 season, and the former Espanyol and RCD Mallorca striker had started firing from the get-go. In Lobera’s first season, Ferran Corominas won the ISL Golden Boot award by scoring 18 goals and providing five assists in 18 league games. However, his heroics couldn’t make the Gaurs ISL winners as their journey ended in the playoffs.
Ferran Corominas continued his superb run in the second season as well, where he scored 15 goals and provided seven assists to win the golden boot for the second consecutive season. This time, FC Goa reached the ISL final before losing to Bengaluru FC by one goal. Though Coro continued his goal-scoring run in the next season as well with 14 goals and four assists to his name, it was Chennaiyin FC striker Nerijus Valskis who won the race for the ISL Golden Boot award this time. Eventually, the Goan star decided to move on to the Spanish side Atlético Baleares.
Roy Krishna: The man who changed ISL forever
Despite the eye-catching technique and fleet footedness of Ferran Corominas, the Indian Super League first realized what they were missing when ATK paid a record transfer fee to rope in Fijian international Roy Krishna from A-league. The well-built centre forward has already tallied 29 goals in 44 league games through his relentless chase in the attacking third and optimum use of physicality to bully defenders.
Despite making his ISL debut two seasons back, no Indian club has found an answer for Krishna yet. Alongside teammate David Williams, Krishna has 31 goals and 14 assists for ATK Mohun Bagan (previously ATK and Atletico de Kolkata) across all competitions, which has seen his club winning the Indian Super League once and ending as runner-up in the other. Though ATKMB saw their AFC Cup campaign ending early, Krishna still managed to score three goals in four matches in the continental championship.
Though ISL has recently seen the rise of players like Jamshedpur FC striker Nerijus Valskis and FC Goa forward Igor Angulo, both of whom have won the golden boot in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons respectively, it is unlikely that the forwards would overtake Corominas to become ISL top scorer of all time.

Sunil Chhetri: The captain, leader, legend of Indian football
It is only deserving that Indian football team captain and all-time top goalscorer Sunil Chhetri takes Ferran Corominas’ place as the ISL top scorer. The Bengaluru FC skipper trails the Spanish striker by just a goal and is largely expected to reach the milestone in the 2021-2022 ISL season.
Despite not starring in the inaugural season of ISL, Sunil Chhetri has still been one of the longest-serving and amongst the most consistent players in the league. He has scored 47 ISL goals in 94 games so far, which is more than some of the top foreign talents in ISL. The fact that Chhetri has been the highest-scoring Indian footballer in five out of the last seven ISL seasons, speaks volumes of his calibre.
