Dabang Delhi became the latest team to join the Pro Kabaddi League winners list after they defeated Patna Pirates on February 25, 2022, in the Pro Kabaddi League 2021-22 final match to clinch their maiden PKL title at the Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield.
Dabang Delhi became the sixth different team to add their name to the Pro Kabaddi Winners list after Jaipur Pink Panthers, U Mumba, Patna Pirates, Bengaluru Bulls and Bengal Warriors. Defending champions Bengal Warriors had failed to make it to the playoffs this season after their brilliant previous season. However, last year’s finalists Delhi managed to take it a step further.

Pro Kabaddi Season 1 winner (2014) : Jaipur Pink Panthers
The Pro Kabaddi League winner in the inaugural season was Jaipur Pink Panthers. Led by the visionary Anup Kumar, the Abhishek Bachhan-owned team finished as the number one with 54 points in their bag. There were eight teams participating in the PKL in the initial few years. The Pink Panthers had faced Patna Pirates in the semi-final and U Mumba in the final, where they emerged victorious with the final score reading 35-24 at the National Sports Club of India, Mumbai. Anup Kumar was the player of the season with the most raid points and most total points.
Pro Kabaddi Season 2 winner (2015) : U Mumba
The second PKL season saw U Mumba finally getting their due after missing out on the Pro Kabaddi title the previous season. They went past Bengaluru Bulls 36-30 in an intense PKL 2015 final match where Shabeer Bappu’s late heroics helped U Mumba win the title. The second season had seen Mumbai taking 81 Do-or-Die tackle points and the most tackle points (196) as well. Though Mumbai had won the summit clash, it was Bengaluru’s Kashiling Adake who had garnered the most points. Telugu Titans had taken the third position.
Pro Kabaddi Season 3 winner (2016) : Patna Pirates
The third PKL season was historic for two reasons. Firstly, it was in 2016 that the management had decided to host two Pro Kabaddi League seasons in a year with each campaign lasting five weeks and eight teams competing in it. Secondly, PKL 3 had seen the rise of Patna Pirates, the most successful Pro Kabaddi team in the history of the tournament. The season had kicked off with intense but brief competition between Patna and Bengaluru before a certain Pardeep Narwal stepped up his game and the Pirates never had to look back. Narwal ended the season with the most raid points (116) as Patna defeated defending champions U Mumba 31-28 to clinch their maiden PKL title. Rohit Kumar was adjudged the player of the season while Sandeep Narwal trailed Pardeep with the most tackle points (53). The star-studded Patna Pirates team had scored a whopping 324 raid points and 30 all-outs that season.
Pro Kabaddi Season 4 winner (2016) : Patna Pirates
A stupendous third season had seen Patna Pirates failing to retain Rohit Kumar, their MVP from last season, but it didn’t matter as they kept Pardeep Narwal in the team. The relentless raider led Patna to their second consecutive PKL title with a one-man show this time, with 133 raid points to Pardeep Narwal’s name as Patna ended the league stages with 52 points and at the top of the points table. The Pirates faced PKL season one champions Jaipur Pink Panthers in the season 4 finale where Narwal raided 16 points to help his team win the summit clash 37-29. Apart from Narwal, Patna also had the defensive rock in Fazel Atrachali who ended season four with 52 tackle points. Patna were the first team to retain the PKL title. This season also had a Women’s Pro Kabaddi League competition with three teams – Ice Divas, Fire Birds and Storm Queens – competing in it.
Pro Kabaddi Season 5 winner (2017) : Patna Pirates
After winning two consecutive PKL titles, things were going to get tough for the Patna Pirates with four new teams joining the competition. However, Pardeep Narwal decided to amp up his game to a whole new level in the face of adversity as he led Patna to an unbelievable third consecutive title. A relentless Patna side ended the group stages with 71 points before defeating Haryana Steelers, Puneri Paltan and Bengal Warriors to reach their third consecutive PKL final. Patna faced Gujarat Giants in the PKL 5 final and comfortably brushed them aside 55-38 to win the trophy. Though Patna had created a record by scoring 1050 points in the entire season, it was labelled as Pardeep Narwal’s season. He had again adjudged the MVP (most valuable player) of the season after ending the campaign with the most raid points (369), most super 10s (19) and most super raids (18). This season will always be remembered for Narwal’s iconic 8-point raid against Harayana.
Pro Kabaddi Season 6 winner (2018) : Bengaluru Bulls
The historic era of the Patna Pirates finally came to an end in PKL season 6 as former Patna star Rohit Kumar led Bengaluru Bulls to their maiden Pro Kabaddi title. However, it was because Bengaluru had found an answer to Pardeep Narwal in the sensational Pawan Sehrawat. The bulky player had garnered 271 raid points to end with the most number of points that season. After topping Zone B by winning 13 of their 22 matches, the Bulls had defeated Gujarat Giants in Qualifier 1 to reach the final. Not as efficient as Patna, Bengaluru had a tough outing against Gujarat in the final yet again with Sehrawat being the difference between the sides. He ended up taking 22 raid points in the final match – the most by any raider – to take home the title.
Pro Kabaddi Season 7 winner (2019) : Bengal Warriors
Bengal Warriors won their maiden PKL title on the back of total team effort. Unlike Patna Pirates and Bengaluru Bulls, the side didn’t bank on individual performances as they defeated Dabang Delhi KC in the PKL final. Both the teams had reached their first PKL final in seven seasons. While Iran’s Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh was Bengal’s best player in the summit clash, where he scored 10 points, Maninder Singh was a constant for the side scoring 205 raid points throughout the season. Apart from them, Baldev Singh and Rinku Narwal had also hogged the limelight with 66 and 64 tackle points to their name, respectively. Bengal’s holistic effort is rightly reflected in the fact that they had to face Delhi without their best raider Maninder Singh in the final, and they still emerged victorious.
Pro Kabaddi Season 8 winner (2021-22) : Dabang Delhi
Pro Kabaddi League had returned to the fore after two years of absence owing to the global pandemic and it ended in the most dramatic of fashions. Old PKL giants Patna Pirates had looked to be returning to their prime yet again but last season’s finalists Dabang Delhi had other plans. Though Pawan Sehrawat ended PKL 8 as the player with the most points, it was Naveen Kumar who was adjudged the MVP after his 207 raid points in 17 matches saw Delhi reach the final and beat Pata Pirates 37-36 in a thriller of a contest to join the Pro Kabaddi League winners list.
