History
The Perth Scorchers are the joint-most successful team in BBL history along with Sydney Sixers, winning three titles and being runners-up three times. They were runners-up in the first two seasons, before winning back to back titles the next two years in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, they finished third, before winning their third BBL trophy the next season. In the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, however, they failed to make it to the knockouts. But they roared back in style to finish runners-up in BBL 10.

The Scorchers started their first-ever BBL campaign on a poor note, losing their opening game to Hobart Hurricanes by 31 runs. However, they bounced back to win five games in a row and subsequently made it to the finals which they lost by 7 wickets to Melbourne Stars. Similar was the story next season under Simon Katich. Scorchers started the season miserably but recovered to make it to the finals which they lost to Brisbane Heat.
The next two seasons, however, under the joint captaincy of Katich, Adam Voges and Mitchell Marsh, the side won two back to back titles. Later in 2016-17, Voges led Perth to a BBL title for the third time.
Under Marsh and Ashton Turner’s captaincy the last three seasons, the team has seen mixed fortunes. They could not make it to the playoffs for two seasons, but reached the finals last year, where they eventually lost to Sydney Sixers.

The Numbers That Matter
Batting Stats
Mitchell Marsh, who has been with the Scorchers since the very first edition of the tournament, is their highest run-scorer. Marsh has 1760 runs in 68 innings at an average and strike rate of 38.26 and 131.73. He also has the most fifties for his side (14).
Bowling Stats
Andrew Tye, who became a part of the franchise in 2014, has taken the most wickets for them (96). However, it is Tim David who has the best economy rate (3.00). It is also important to note that the off-break bowler played just 12 games for the three-time champions.
Team Stats
The highest team total by the Scorchers is 213-3, which helped them beat Brisbane Heat by 34 runs in January 2020. Marsh scored an unbeaten 93 off just 41 balls. Their lowest total, on the other hand, is 69, which came against the Melbourne Stars in the second edition of the tournament.
Perth Scorchers: Rivalries

Melbourne Stars | 17 | 9 | 8 | 52.94 |
Adelaide Strikers | 19 | 10 | 9 | 52.63 |
Sydney Sixers | 20 | 10 | 9 | 50 |
Sydney Sixers
The Scorchers vs Sixers rivalry is a rather well-known one as both the teams have won three BBL titles each. The Scorchers currently lead Sixers 10-9 in head-to-head, and on both occasions when the two teams met in the finals, Perth emerged victorious.
Melbourne Stars
Perth Scorchers knocked out the Melbourne Stars from two BBL finals, rather memorably in the second edition, which started a rivalry between the two teams. Of the 17 matches played between the two teams, Perth have 9 wins while Melbourne have 8.
Adelaide Strikers
Another team with which the Scorchers have a close head to head total is Adelaide Strikers. The two sides have played 19 games between them, winning 10 and 9 games respectively.
Road Ahead for Perth Scorchers
One of the most consistent franchises in BBL history, Scorchers made it to the final last season, before eventually being beaten by their best rivals, the Sixers. They have a star-studded outfit this year, which includes Mitchell Marsh, one of Australia’s best performers at the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Along with Marsh, the side also boasts of other experienced batters in Colin Munro, Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner. Their bowling department is equally impressive, comprising the likes of Jason Behrendoff, Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye. Although Josh Inglis and Jhye Richardson are unavailable due to the Ashes series, the Scorchers still look like the team to beat this season.
